The colours, the climate, and pumpkin-spice everything make fall one of the best seasons. Even here in Vancouver, the change is already tangible, and it’s important to note that our skin is noticing these changes, too.

Summertime means high humidity—and this helps lock moisture in the skin. Cooler weather is drier weather, and once you turn on the heat, your skin will be prone to increased sensitivity, dryness, and irritation.

That’s why we have 5 derm-approved tips to keep your skin happy, healthy, and hydrated—this season.

1) Thicken up

Swap out your light summer moisturizer with something more luxurious. The one we love is SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2. Its blend of ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids make this a luxurious and deeply moisturizing formula that leaves you with soft, moisturized skin.

2) Hydrate-a-plenty

You know the routine—six big glasses of water a day. Besides keeping your body refreshed, water helps maintain your skin’s elasticity. That means scars, wrinkles, and soft lines are less visible. Pay attention to your skin, especially the lip and eye area, which is delicate and prone to drying out. If you need to add an eye cream and/or lip balm to your routine—do!

3) Ease up on exfoliants and retinoids

Exfoliants and retinol can be drying, but the warm weather helps to soothe and buffer the effects. Ease up while your skin is adapting to the new season. Cut back if you notice increased irritation and breakouts.

4) Get your C power!

We love Vitamin C! Why? It evens skin pigmentation and boosts collagen production, which means a brighter more youthful complexion. If you haven’t found a go-to product, we recommend SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF. As a super-powered Vitamin C serum, it performs wonderfully on normal, oily, and acne-prone skin

5) Keep using your sunblock

We get it, there doesn’t seem to be as much sun, but UVA and UVB rays are still present all the time. If you hate feeling greasy or your skin is sensitive, one formula we like to recommend is Physical Fusion UV Defense, a multi-award-winning product that can help defend your skin against damaging UV radiation.
